Mulesing-Free: Our Commitment to Animal Welfare and Sustainability

At Villama, animal welfare and sustainability are the foundation of everything we do. As resellers of natural yarns, we understand that every choice we make matters. We carefully seek out suppliers and yarns that share this philosophy and can verify their commitment with the necessary certifications.

What is Mulesing?

Mulesing is a surgical practice used on some sheep farms, particularly in Australia, to reduce the risk of parasitic infestations in merino sheep. This procedure involves removing a section of skin around the animal’s perianal area to prevent infections that can harm the sheep. While it can help protect the animals, this method has raised significant concerns due to the pain and discomfort it can cause.

Our Philosophy: Mulesing-Free

In many countries producing merino wool, such as New Zealand and Argentina, mulesing is prohibited by law or deemed unnecessary due to local climate conditions. Villama works only with producers in regions where mulesing is not practiced. This means that all our merino yarns are mulesing-free, sourced from ethical suppliers who use animal-friendly care practices.

Our Commitment to Transparency and Animal Welfare

At every stage of our supply chain, we request documentation to confirm that our yarns meet our strict animal welfare standards. We know our customers value transparency and want their projects to align with their own ethical standards. That’s why Villama is firmly committed to opposing any practice that causes suffering to animals and works only with fibers that respect these principles.

Sustainability and Responsibility in Every Craft Project

We believe that sustainability goes hand in hand with responsibility. Our high-quality, soft yarns tell a story of ethical and sustainable production. In choosing to work with natural fibers, we take on the responsibility of ensuring that our products respect both people and the planet. This is our commitment to a more mindful, sustainable future, where every craft project can be completed with the peace of mind that behind each fiber is a genuine dedication to animal welfare.
